How to Heal from a Heartbreak 💔

Post Image

Heartbreak sucks. There’s no sugarcoating it. One moment, you’re living in a beautiful dream, and the next, it feels like the rug has been pulled from under you. Whether it was a long-term relationship or a short-lived romance, the pain can be overwhelming. But guess what? You will heal. You will find happiness again. And you will come out stronger. 💪✨ So, how do you heal from heartbreak? Let’s talk about it.👇 1. Let Yourself Feel It 😢 Heartbreak is painful because you truly cared. And that’s okay. Suppressing your emotions will only delay healing. Cry if you need to. Write in your journal. Talk to a close friend. Let it all out. Healing starts when you acknowledge your pain instead of running from it. 2. Cut Off Contact (At Least for Now) 🚫📵 This one is HARD, but necessary. Constantly checking their social media, rereading old messages, or hoping they’ll reach out will only reopen wounds. Give yourself space to breathe and regain clarity. It’s not about being bitter—it’s about protecting your peace. 3. Surround Yourself with Love ❤️ Your world isn’t ending—it’s just changing. Lean on your friends and family. Go out for coffee, have deep conversations, and allow the people who truly love you to remind you of your worth. You’re not alone in this journey. 4. Rediscover Yourself 🌱 Sometimes, relationships make us forget parts of who we are. Use this time to reconnect with yourself. What makes you happy? Try a new hobby, read that book you never finished, or take yourself out on solo dates. Learning to enjoy your own company is a game-changer. 5. No Rebound, Just Self-Love 🛑💞 Jumping into another relationship to fill the void might seem tempting, but it rarely leads to true healing. Instead of seeking validation from someone new, focus on validating yourself. Love you first. 6. Take Care of Your Body & Mind 🧘‍♀️🏋️‍♂️ Your mental and physical health are deeply connected. Exercise, eat well, get enough sleep, and try mindfulness practices like meditation. A healthy body helps support a healing heart. 7. Believe That Better Days Are Ahead 🌈 Right now, it may feel like the pain will last forever, but it won’t. Every day, you’re healing—even when you don’t feel it. One day, you’ll wake up and realize that the pain has faded. You’ll laugh freely again, and love will find its way back to you when the time is right. Heartbreak is tough, but so are you. It’s not about forgetting them—it’s about remembering you. Keep moving forward, keep growing, and most importantly, keep loving yourself...............

Ways to Keep the LOVE Alive in Your Relationship ❤️🔥

Post Image

Romance is one of the key ingredients that keeps a relationship strong and exciting. It’s not just about grand gestures but also about the small, meaningful moments that show love and appreciation. If you want to add more romance to your relationship, here are some simple yet effective ways to do so: 1. Understand Your Partner’s Love Language 💬💖 Everyone expresses and receives love differently. Dr. Gary Chapman’s concept of the five love languages highlights how individuals prefer to give and receive love. The five love languages are: Words of Affirmation 🗣️💕 – Some people feel most loved when they hear kind, encouraging, or appreciative words. Simple compliments, love notes, or expressing gratitude can make a big impact. Acts of Service 🛠️❤️ – For some, actions speak louder than words. Doing something helpful, like cooking a meal, running an errand, or fixing something for your partner, shows love in a meaningful way. Receiving Gifts 🎁💘 – This isn’t about materialism but about the thought behind a gift. A well-chosen present, no matter how small, can make a person feel cherished and remembered. Quality Time ⏳💑 – Giving your undivided attention and spending meaningful time together is a priority for some. Putting away distractions and being fully present strengthens emotional connections. Physical Touch 🤗💞 – Holding hands, hugging, cuddling, and other physical gestures of affection create a deep sense of intimacy and security. Understanding which love language your partner values most helps you tailor your romantic gestures in a way that resonates deeply with them. It also prevents misunderstandings and ensures that your efforts are truly appreciated. 2. Surprise Them Occasionally 🎉💝 Surprises don’t have to be extravagant to be meaningful. A small, unexpected gesture can brighten your partner’s day and make them feel special. Consider: Leaving a heartfelt note 💌 in their bag or pocket. Bringing them their favorite snack 🍫 or drink ☕ when they least expect it. Planning a surprise outing, like a picnic 🧺 or a spontaneous drive 🚗 to a scenic location. Sending a random “thinking of you” text 📱💭 or voice note during the day. The key is to keep things thoughtful and personal. 3. Plan Date Nights 🌙🍽️ Never let your relationship become too routine. Regular date nights help keep the spark alive. Try: Classic Dates: Fancy dinners 🍷, movies 🎬, or live concerts 🎶. Adventure Dates: Hiking ⛰️, road trips 🛣️, or amusement parks 🎡. At-Home Dates: Cooking together 🍳, watching a movie 🎥 with homemade popcorn 🍿, or having a game night 🎲. Themed Dates: Dressing up 👗🎩 in a particular theme or recreating your first date 💑. Consistency is key—whether it’s weekly or monthly, make it a priority to set aside uninterrupted time for each other. 4. Express Your Love Daily 💖✨ Love should be expressed every day, not just on special occasions. Make it a habit to: Compliment your partner genuinely 😊. Send sweet texts or reminders of why you love them 💬❤️. Hold their hand or hug them whenever you get the chance 🤗. Say “I love you” sincerely and often 💕. A simple “I appreciate you” can make all the difference in how connected you feel. 5. Be Thoughtful 🤔💗 Small, thoughtful gestures show that you pay attention to your partner’s needs and wants. Some ideas include: Remembering important dates 📆 like birthdays and anniversaries without being reminded. Preparing their favorite meal 🍲 or drink 🍹 without them asking. Listening actively 👂 when they share their feelings or concerns. Supporting them in times of stress 🫂 by offering words of encouragement or a comforting presence. Thoughtfulness is a subtle yet powerful way to reinforce love and connection. 6. Write Love Letters or Notes ✍️💌 In a world dominated by digital communication, a handwritten letter or note feels extra special. Try: Writing a heartfelt letter 💕 about what you love about them. Leaving small love notes 💗 in their pockets, car, or under their pillow. Sending a surprise email or message reminiscing about a cherished memory 📝. These little efforts make your partner feel valued and adored. 7. Give Meaningful Gifts 🎁💝 Gift-giving is not about the price but the thought behind it. Consider: A personalized item, like a custom mug ☕, keychain 🔑, or engraved jewelry 💍. A memory book 📖 filled with pictures and notes from your favorite moments together. Something related to their hobbies, like a book 📚, art supplies 🎨, or sports gear 🏀. A subscription service they’d love, such as a book club, beauty box, or streaming service 📺. The goal is to make them feel seen and understood through your gifts. 8. Be Affectionate 🥰🤗 Physical touch can be a strong expression of love and reassurance. Simple ways to be more affectionate include: Holding hands while walking or sitting together 🤝. Hugging and kissing regularly 💋, even for no particular reason. Giving back rubs 💆‍♂️ or gentle caresses when relaxing together. Snuggling while watching movies 🎥 or before sleeping 🛏️. Non-verbal expressions of love help build intimacy and connection. 9. Support Their Goals and Dreams 🚀❤️ A great partner is also a great cheerleader. Show support by: Encouraging their ambitions 🌟 and celebrating their wins 🎉. Offering to help with tasks or projects they’re working on 📑. Being patient and understanding during their struggles 💞. Attending important events or milestones in their career or personal life 🎓. Knowing you’re there for them through thick and thin strengthens trust and love. 10. Do Things Together 🤝💕 Shared experiences create lasting memories and deeper bonds. Consider: Trying a new hobby together 🎭, like painting, dancing, or photography 📷. Cooking a new recipe as a team 🍜. Exercising together 🏋️‍♂️, whether it’s jogging, yoga 🧘‍♀️, or gym workouts. Volunteering for a cause you both care about 🤲. Engaging in activities together fosters teamwork and fun in the relationship. 11. Make Them Feel Special Every Day 💫💓 Romance isn’t about big moments only—it’s about consistency. Ways to make your partner feel special include: Greeting them warmly every morning and night 🌞🌙. Complimenting them regularly 😊. Checking in on how their day is going 📱. Doing little acts of kindness, like running errands for them or making them a cup of tea ☕. Small, everyday gestures are what keep love alive in the long run. Finally ❤️ Being romantic in a relationship is all about effort, thoughtfulness, and consistency. It’s not about spending a lot of money but about making your partner feel loved and cherished in meaningful ways. By incorporating these simple but powerful habits into your relationship, you can keep the romance alive and build a stronger, happier connection. 💞✨ 💬 What’s your favorite romantic gesture to give or receive? Let’s share some ideas in the comments! 😊💕

Should I Date for Love or Money? The Hard Truth

Post Image

Relationships are built on different foundations, some on love, some on financial stability, and some on both. But in today’s world, where financial security plays a crucial role in happiness, many wonder: should you date for love or money? The answer isn’t as simple as it seems. Let’s break it down. Dating for Love: A Dream or a Risk? Love is the foundation of trust, companionship, and deep emotional connection. It brings passion, loyalty, and happiness that money alone can’t buy. However, love doesn’t always guarantee a smooth ride. 💖 Pros of Dating for Love: ✅ Emotional connection and true companionship ✅ Genuine care and support through tough times ✅ Shared values and deep understanding 💔 Cons of Dating for Love Alone: ❌ Financial struggles can cause stress and conflicts ❌ Love doesn’t pay the bills ❌ Unrealistic expectations can lead to disappointment While love is beautiful, a relationship without financial security can feel like an uphill battle. Dating for Money: Smart or Superficial? Some believe that financial security is just as important as emotional connection—if not more. Being with a wealthy partner means stability, comfort, and fewer worries about bills and survival. But is dating for money a gold-digger move or a smart strategy? 💰 Pros of Dating for Money: ✅ Financial stability and a comfortable lifestyle ✅ Less stress about expenses ✅ Freedom to focus on personal growth 💸 Cons of Dating for Money Alone: ❌ Risk of feeling unfulfilled if there’s no emotional bond ❌ Relationships may feel transactional ❌ Dependence on your partner’s wealth could backfire Money can provide comfort, but if the relationship lacks love and respect, even the wealthiest lifestyle can feel empty. The Role of Personal Growth & Ambition Instead of depending on a wealthy partner, why not work towards financial success together? True power in a relationship comes from two people growing together, not one person carrying the other. 💡 A man or woman who only seeks a financially successful partner without working on themselves may find themselves feeling powerless or dependent in the relationship. This can lead to control issues, resentment, or even the risk of being left behind when the other partner moves forward in life. ✔️ Build your own financial stability. When both partners are independent and ambitious, the relationship becomes stronger and more fulfilling. ✔️ Support each other's goals. Instead of looking for a "rich" or "financially stable" partner, why not be that person yourself? Help each other grow. ✔️ Respect ambition in both genders. Whether it's a man who respects a hardworking woman or a woman who values an ambitious man, relationships thrive when both partners bring something valuable to the table. At the end of the day, being with someone who has a vision and drive is just as important as love or money. A relationship where both partners are financially smart and ambitious will always have a higher chance of success than one based solely on either love or wealth. The Hard Truth: Balance is Key The truth is, love and money are both important. A successful relationship thrives when there’s a balance between emotional connection and financial security. Here’s how to find that balance: ✔️ Choose a partner with shared values – If you both prioritize love and financial stability, you’re on the right track. ✔️ Have honest money conversations early – Don’t wait until problems arise before discussing financial expectations. ✔️ Build together – Instead of waiting for a wealthy partner, why not grow financially as a team? At the end of the day, dating for love or money is a personal choice. But the happiest relationships have both. So, why choose one when you can have both? What’s your take—would you choose love, money, or a balance of both? Let’s discuss in the comments! 💬👇

Ways to Improve Communication with Your Partner 💬❤️

Post Image

Communication is the foundation of any healthy relationship. Without effective communication, misunderstandings, conflicts, and emotional distance can arise, leading to dissatisfaction and disconnection. If you want to strengthen your relationship, here are practical ways to improve communication with your partner. 😊 1. Practice Active Listening 👂❤️ One of the most critical aspects of communication is listening. Active listening means paying full attention to your partner without distractions, acknowledging their words, and responding thoughtfully. Do you make eye contact when your partner speaks? 👀 Maintain eye contact to show attentiveness and respect. Do you give verbal and non-verbal affirmations to show you are engaged? 🤔 Nod, smile, and use phrases like "I see" or "That makes sense" to show you are listening. How often do you interrupt your partner instead of letting them finish? ⏳ Pause before responding and let your partner finish their thoughts completely. 2. Be Open and Honest 💖🗣 Honesty builds trust, which is essential in any relationship. Being open about your feelings, expectations, and concerns fosters deeper understanding. Do you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts with your partner? 🗨️ Create a safe space where both of you can express your thoughts without fear of judgment. Are there topics you avoid discussing due to fear of conflict? 😟 Address uncomfortable topics calmly and at the right time, ensuring mutual understanding. 3. Use "I" Statements Instead of "You" Statements 💡🗯 Using "I" statements prevents blame and promotes constructive conversations. Instead of saying, "You never listen to me," say, "I feel unheard when I speak, and I’d like more engagement." How do you express concerns without making your partner feel defensive? 🛑 Use "I" statements to focus on your feelings instead of blaming your partner. Have you noticed a difference in response when using "I" statements? 🤔 Pay attention to how your partner reacts and adjust your approach accordingly. 4. Be Mindful of Your Tone and Body Language 🗣️🤨 Non-verbal cues such as facial expressions, posture, and tone of voice significantly impact communication. A harsh tone or crossed arms can send unintended messages. Do you maintain an approachable posture during discussions? 😊 Keep an open posture and relaxed body language to show receptiveness. How often do you check your tone when addressing your partner? 🎵 Speak in a calm, respectful tone, even during disagreements. 5. Schedule Quality Time for Conversations ⏰❤️ Set aside time to talk without distractions. Whether over dinner, during a walk, or before bedtime, dedicating moments for open discussion strengthens your bond. Do you prioritize meaningful conversations amid daily responsibilities? 🏃‍♂️ Schedule regular check-ins to discuss thoughts, feelings, and future plans. How often do you have uninterrupted time together? 📵 Set boundaries, such as putting phones away during conversations. 6. Learn to Compromise and Find Solutions Together 🤝💡 Every relationship requires compromise. Instead of focusing on winning an argument, work together to find mutually beneficial solutions. Do you and your partner approach conflicts as a team? 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Shift from a "me vs. you" mindset to a "we" mindset when solving problems. Are you willing to adjust your perspective to accommodate your partner’s needs? 🔄 Practice empathy by considering your partner’s feelings and viewpoints. 7. Express Appreciation and Gratitude 🙌💕 Acknowledging your partner’s efforts, big or small, creates a positive atmosphere and encourages open communication. Do you frequently express appreciation to your partner? 💝 Regularly say "thank you" and acknowledge their efforts. How does showing gratitude impact your relationship? 🥰 Make appreciation a habit to strengthen emotional connection. 8. Give Each Other Space When Needed 🚀💭 Constantly being around each other without breaks can cause tension. Allowing space for personal time enhances individual well-being and refreshes communication. Do you respect your partner’s need for personal time? 🏞️ Encourage alone time and personal hobbies without feeling neglected. How does alone time benefit your relationship? 💆‍♀️ It helps both partners recharge and bring fresh energy into the relationship. 9. Resolve Conflicts Respectfully 🔥💬 Disagreements are natural, but handling them with respect is crucial. Avoid yelling, name-calling, or bringing up past issues unnecessarily. How do you handle disagreements without escalating conflicts? 🚦 Stay calm, listen actively, and address issues respectfully. Do you seek to understand before being understood? 🧠 Practice empathy by considering your partner’s perspective before responding. 10. Seek Professional Help If Needed 🏥📞 Sometimes, communication issues require external guidance. A counselor or therapist can provide strategies to improve interactions and resolve deeper conflicts. Would you consider professional counseling if communication struggles persist? 💬 Be open to seeking help if communication barriers seem insurmountable. How open are you to seeking expert advice for relationship growth? 🌱 View therapy as a proactive step rather than a last resort. Finally, 💖✨ Improving communication with your partner requires consistent effort, patience, and a willingness to understand each other. By actively listening, expressing gratitude, and addressing conflicts respectfully, you can create a stronger and more fulfilling relationship. 💡 What communication strategies have worked best in your relationship? What areas do you think need improvement? Let’s talk in the comments! 😊

Signs Of A Healthy Relationship

Post Image

A healthy relationship makes life better, bringing happiness, support, and growth. Whether with family, friends, or partners, strong connections are built on respect, trust, and good communication. Here are the key signs of a strong and healthy relationship: 1. Respect: Treating Each Other Right Respect means listening to each other, valuing opinions, and setting boundaries. In a good relationship, both people feel heard and appreciated. No one should feel ignored or unimportant. **Before getting into any relationship, ask yourself:** Does this person respect me and my boundaries? 2. Trust and Honesty: The Heart of Every Bond Trust is what keeps a relationship strong. Being honest, reliable, and open helps avoid misunderstandings. If trust is broken, it takes time and effort to rebuild. **When conflicts happen, do you talk things out calmly, or does it always end in blame and arguments?** 3. Good Communication: Talking and Listening Healthy relationships need open and clear conversations. Listening to each other, expressing feelings, and solving problems together create understanding and closeness. **Do your relationships encourage personal growth, or do they hold you back from your dreams?** 4. Emotional Support: Being There for Each Other A strong relationship provides comfort during tough times and celebrates achievements. Being supportive means offering encouragement, kindness, and a safe space to share feelings. **Are you surrounded by people who genuinely care about your well-being, or do they drain your energy?** 5. Personal Growth: Growing Together and Individually A good relationship allows both people to grow and follow their dreams. Supporting each other’s goals while maintaining independence strengthens the bond. **If a friend came to you with the same relationship struggles you are facing, what advice would you give them?** 6. Sharing Responsibilities and Compromise Every relationship is a partnership. Both people should share responsibilities and make decisions together. Compromise is key—finding solutions that work for both sides creates balance. 7. Handling Conflict the Right Way Disagreements happen, but how they are handled matters. A healthy relationship involves calm discussions, patience, and a willingness to solve problems instead of blaming each other. 8. Respecting Boundaries and Personal Space Everyone needs space and time for themselves. Respecting each other’s boundaries helps build trust and ensures that both people feel comfortable and free. 9. Shared Values and Goals Having similar values and future goals makes a relationship stronger. While differences can exist, agreeing on important things—like family, career, or lifestyle—helps create a clear path forward together. 10. Appreciation and Gratitude Saying “thank you” and showing appreciation make a big difference. Recognizing each other’s efforts and kindness builds positivity and keeps the relationship strong. Advice for Young People, Especially Teenagers Teenagers and young adults should be mindful of the relationships they build. At a young age, emotions can be strong, making it easy to get attached to the wrong people. It’s important to prioritize self-respect and personal growth over unhealthy attachments. Being in the wrong relationship, especially with the opposite sex, can lead to emotional distress, distraction from important life goals, and even dangerous situations. Always set clear boundaries and avoid relationships that involve manipulation, pressure, or lack of respect. Focus on education, self-improvement, and friendships that bring positivity and motivation. Key Takeaways Healthy relationships take effort, patience, and understanding. By building respect, trust, and communication, people can create lasting, meaningful connections that bring happiness and fulfillment. When both individuals support each other, the relationship becomes a source of strength and joy. For young people, it’s essential to be cautious, make wise choices, and surround themselves with people who genuinely care about their well-being.

Why Shopping from Local Sellers Saves You Time & Money

Post Image

Shopping locally is more than just a trend; it's a smart way to save both time and money. Whether you’re buying groceries, clothing, or household essentials, purchasing from local sellers offers multiple financial and practical benefits. Here’s why choosing local is a win-win for you. ✅ Lower Prices Without Hidden Fees When you shop from local businesses, you avoid hidden fees like shipping costs, international taxes, and import duties. Many large retailers and online platforms add these extra charges, increasing the total cost. Local sellers offer competitive pricing without these additional expenses. 🚗 Reduced Transportation Costs Driving long distances or waiting days for deliveries can be costly. Shopping nearby means you spend less on fuel or avoid delivery fees altogether. Plus, you don’t have to wait for your items to arrive; you get them instantly. 💰 Better Deals & Negotiation Power Unlike big retail chains with fixed prices, local sellers often allow for bargaining. Many vendors offer discounts, loyalty rewards, or bulk purchase deals, helping you save even more money. 🥦 Fresher & More Affordable Groceries Buying from local markets ensures you get fresher produce at lower prices compared to supermarkets that import goods. Locally sourced food is not only cheaper but also healthier, as it doesn't go through lengthy storage and transportation processes. 🌍 Support for the Local Economy Every purchase you make from a local seller supports small businesses, keeping money within the community. This strengthens the local economy, creating more jobs and opportunities for people around you. ⏳ Faster Access to Products No more waiting for deliveries or dealing with shipping delays. Shopping locally means instant access to what you need, saving you the hassle of tracking orders or dealing with lost packages. 🤝 Personalized Customer Service Local sellers value their customers and often provide personalized service, helping you find exactly what you need. Unlike big corporations, they are more flexible with returns, exchanges, and custom requests. 📌 Real-World Example Consider a local farmer's market where fresh vegetables and fruits are available at a lower price than supermarkets. For instance, John, a resident of Lagos, prefers buying tomatoes and peppers from a local vendor instead of a supermarket. Not only does he save money, but he also gets fresher produce while supporting small-scale farmers in his community. 🔹 Final Thoughts Choosing local sellers for your shopping needs is not just a way to save money but also a time-efficient and rewarding experience. The next time you need to shop, consider supporting local businesses—you’ll enjoy better deals, faster service, and a stronger community. 🛍️ Start shopping locally today and experience the benefits firsthand!

Smart Ways to Save Money on Your Purchases

Introduction Have you ever gone to the market or a shop, only to realize you spent more than planned? It happens to many people! The good news is that you can avoid overspending by shopping wisely. Here are ten simple ways to save money while buying what you need. 1. Make a Shopping List and Follow It Before you go shopping, write down what you need. This will help you avoid buying things that are not necessary. Example: Chinedu, a student in Awka, used to visit the market without a list. He often bought snacks and extra items he didn’t plan for. One day, he started making a list before shopping, and he noticed he spent less money and avoided waste. 2. Check Prices Before Buying Before paying for something, check prices in different stores or online. Some sellers charge more than others for the same product. Example: Ada wanted to buy a new phone. Instead of buying from the first shop, she checked prices in three different stores. She found the same phone at a lower price in a shop at Eke Awka market and saved ₦5,000. 3. Use Discount Codes and Promo Offers Many stores and online shops offer discounts, promo codes, or special deals. Using these can save you a lot of money. Example: Emeka wanted to buy a new pair of shoes online. He searched for discount codes and found a promo that gave him 15% off. He ended up saving ₦2,000 on his order. 4. Buy in Bulk Buying in bulk is cheaper in the long run, especially for food and household items. Example: Ngozi and her sisters used to buy rice in small quantities every week. Later, they decided to buy a full bag instead. They realized they saved ₦3,000 per month by buying in bulk. 5. Shop During Sales and Promotions Many shops have sales during festive periods or at the end of the year. This is a great time to buy what you need at a lower price. Example: Uche wanted to buy a fridge but waited until Black Friday sales. He got a 40% discount and saved ₦50,000. 6. Take Advantage of Cashback and Reward Programs Some banks, supermarkets, and online stores give cashback or points when you buy from them. Example: Ifeoma always buys fuel at a station that offers cashback rewards. After a few months, she used her accumulated points to get free fuel worth ₦5,000. 7. Buy Fairly Used or Refurbished Items Instead of always buying brand-new things, consider buying fairly used or refurbished products in good condition. Example: Paul needed a laptop but couldn’t afford a new one. He found a well-maintained, fairly used laptop for half the price of a new one and saved ₦80,000. 8. Don't Shop When You’re Hungry or Emotional Shopping when you’re hungry or in a bad mood can make you buy things you don’t need. Example: Amaka went to the market on an empty stomach. She bought a lot of snacks and extra food she didn’t plan for. Next time, she ate before shopping and saved ₦2,500. 9. Use Customer Loyalty Cards and Membership Discounts Many supermarkets and stores give special discounts to loyal customers. Always ask if a store has such programs. Example: Chika shops at a supermarket that offers membership discounts. She gets 5% off her grocery bill every month, which helps her save money over time. 10. Delay Buying Non-Essential Items If you don’t need something urgently, wait before buying it. Prices may drop, or you may find a better deal later. Example: Obi wanted to buy a new TV immediately, but he waited for two months. Later, the price dropped by ₦30,000, and he got it at a better deal. Conclusion Saving money while shopping is easy when you plan well. By making lists, using discounts, comparing prices, and avoiding impulse buying, you can keep more money in your pocket. Binance Official Accuses Nigerian Lawmakers of Demanding $150 Million in Cryptocurrency

Post Image

A major controversy has emerged following allegations made by a top Binance executive against some Nigerian lawmakers. Tigran Gambaryan, the Head of Financial Crime Compliance at Binance, has claimed that three members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives—Peter Akpanke, Philip Agbese, and Ginger Obinna Onwusibe—demanded a $150 million bribe from the cryptocurrency exchange. According to Gambaryan, the alleged request was made during a meeting with Binance representatives in an attempt to settle the company’s ongoing legal issues in Nigeria. His claims have sparked widespread debate, particularly because he had been detained in Nigeria for several months over allegations of money laundering and currency manipulation before making these revelations. Government Response and Public Reactions The Nigerian government has strongly refuted the claims, calling them false and baseless. Officials argue that no such request was made and insist that the allegations are an attempt to divert attention from Binance’s regulatory challenges in Nigeria. The lawmakers named in the allegations have also denied any wrongdoing. This development has led to mixed reactions from the public. While some Nigerians believe the claims should be thoroughly investigated to determine their authenticity, others see it as part of a larger conflict over cryptocurrency regulations in the country. The case has also drawn international attention, especially within the global financial and cryptocurrency communities. The Bigger Picture: Cryptocurrency and Regulation in Nigeria Nigeria has had a complicated relationship with cryptocurrency regulation. The country’s authorities have taken strict measures against unregulated crypto exchanges, citing concerns about financial crimes, foreign exchange instability, and money laundering. Binance, as one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency platforms, has faced scrutiny from multiple governments, including Nigeria. As investigations continue, the outcome of this controversy could have significant implications for Binance’s operations in Nigeria and the broader cryptocurrency industry. Whether the allegations are proven or dismissed, the case highlights ongoing tensions between regulators and crypto businesses operating in the country. Conclusion This is a developing story, and more updates are expected in the coming days. What are your thoughts on this situation? Should there be an independent investigation into the bribery allegations, or is this just another example of corporate and government power struggles? Share your opinions in the comments.

UNIZIK Student Expelled After Clashing with Lecturer Over TikTok Video

Post Image

UNIZIK Student Expelled for Assaulting Lecturer Over TikTok Video A major incident has occurred at Nnamdi Azikiwe University UNIZIK in Awka involving a third-year student of the History and International Studies department, Chimamaka Precious Goddy-Mbakwe, and a lecturer from the Theatre Arts and Film Studies department, Dr Chukwudi Okoye. The confrontation between the student and the lecturer, which reportedly began over a TikTok video, led to her expulsion from the institution. According to reports, the incident took place in one of the university’s corridors when Dr Okoye attempted to pass by while Chimamaka was recording a TikTok video. He allegedly tapped her on the shoulder and said excuse me but this led to an exchange of words between the two. The lecturer, feeling disrespected, reportedly asked her to delete the video, but she refused. In an attempt to retrieve her phone, an argument broke out, which escalated into a physical struggle. During the struggle, Chimamaka bit the lecturer on his hand. Following the incident, the university authorities launched an investigation to determine what had happened. The Student Disciplinary Committee reviewed the case and found Chimamaka guilty of gross misconduct. The university management then announced her immediate expulsion. The acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu, stated that UNIZIK has a zero-tolerance policy for student misconduct and that maintaining discipline within the university is a top priority. The incident has sparked widespread debate both within and outside the university. Some students and social media users have expressed their views, with some supporting the university’s decision while others believe that the punishment was too harsh. Some have also raised concerns about the increasing use of social media on university campuses and how it affects student behavior. In recent years, social media platforms like TikTok have become highly popular among students, but they have also led to several controversies in academic environments. Many lecturers and school administrators argue that excessive use of social media during school hours distracts students from their studies and creates unnecessary conflicts. On the other hand, students believe they should have the freedom to create content and express themselves as long as it does not interfere with academic activities. This incident serves as a reminder that students must be mindful of their behavior within academic environments. While the digital age has provided more freedom for self-expression, it is important to maintain respect and discipline, especially in interactions with lecturers and other university staff. What do you think about this situation? Do you believe the university was too strict, or was the expulsion justified? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Suspension of private university approval

Post Image

Nigerian Government Suspends Approval of New Private Universities: What It Means for Education The Nigerian government, through the National Universities Commission (NUC), has announced a one-year suspension on approving new private universities. This decision, effective February 10, 2025, aims to review and strengthen regulatory guidelines to ensure better standards in the private university sector. While this move is meant to improve education quality, it raises concerns about accessibility, affordability, and the future of private tertiary institutions in Nigeria. --- Why the Suspension? The NUC’s Executive Secretary, Abdullahi Ribadu, explained that the suspension applies to: ✅ New submissions for private university approval. ✅ Inactive applications that have not made significant progress. ✅ Proposals still at the letter of intent stage. However, applications that are already under review will not be affected. Instead, they will be assessed and recommended for final approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The commission believes this break will restructure and strengthen regulations, ensuring that new universities meet modern educational demands. --- Increased Costs for Private University Applications In addition to the suspension, the NUC has significantly raised fees for new private university applications: 💰 Application Fee – Increased from ₦1 million to ₦5 million. 💰 Processing Fee – Raised from ₦5 million to ₦25 million. For applicants who already purchased forms, they must pay the new processing fee within 30 working days or risk losing their application. --- The Rapid Growth of Private Universities in Nigeria Since the first private universities—Babcock University, Igbinedion University, and Madonna University—were established in 1999, the sector has grown rapidly. By 2024, Nigeria had 149 private universities, surpassing the total number of federal and state universities combined. Why the Surge? ✔️ Frequent ASUU Strikes – Disruptions in public universities push students toward private institutions. ✔️ Rising Demand for Higher Education – Public universities have limited admission slots. ✔️ Better Facilities & Stability – Private universities offer uninterrupted academic calendars and modern learning environments. --- Impact on Students & Investors 📌 For Students: The suspension won’t affect current private universities, but it could limit new institutions in the future. Tuition fees may rise due to stricter regulations and increased operational costs. 📌 For Investors & University Founders: Higher financial barriers due to increased application and processing fees. Those who haven’t moved beyond the letter of intent stage must wait until 2026 to proceed. --- Final Thoughts The government’s suspension of private university approvals aims to improve education quality and regulation. However, it also raises concerns about accessibility, affordability, and investment in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector. Will this policy enhance or hinder private university development in Nigeria? Drop your thoughts in the comments

Kenneth Okonkwo, former spokesperson for the Labour Party's Presidential Campaign Council, has announced his resignation from the party,

Post Image

Actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has announced his resignation from the Labour Party, effective February 25, 2025. He made this known in a detailed post on X today, February 11, citing the party’s structural and leadership challenges as his primary reason for leaving. According to Okonkwo, the Labour Party, in its current state, is "non-existent as presently constituted." He highlighted that the tenure of the ward, local government, and state party executives is three years, as stipulated in Article 15(2)(3)(4) of the party’s constitution. However, no congresses have been conducted at these levels within the constitutionally allowed period, rendering their leadership void. He further criticized the former National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, and the former National Working Committee (NWC) for failing to organize a legally recognized national convention. Okonkwo noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not recognize the Abure-led NWC, and the courts have ruled that party leadership matters fall within the internal affairs of the party, leaving Labour Party without effective national leadership. He acknowledged the formation of a caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman, which was set up by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) and mandated to conduct congresses and a national convention within six months. However, he alleged that Abure and his associates, in collaboration with external forces, have obstructed the committee’s operations through legal challenges. Okonkwo, who is also a lawyer, stated that if Abure was genuinely committed to the emergence of a southern presidential candidate in the 2027 elections to challenge President Bola Tinubu, he would have stepped aside as National Chairman in favor of a northern leader. Concluding his statement, Okonkwo expressed gratitude to Nigerians who supported him and the party, reaffirming his commitment to good governance. He stated that his resignation will take effect on February 25, 2025, marking the second anniversary of the 2023 presidential election. After this date, he intends to work with other like-minded Nigerians to shape the future of governance in the country.

Elon Musk spent more than $290 million on the 2024 election

The world’s richest man, Elon Musk spent a total of more than $290 million on the 2024 election, new federal filings show, helping Donald Trump and Republicans to gain power. The year-end filings covered the final five weeks of the year. Trump’s old campaign committee despite being term-limited — hauled in nearly $21 million in the period. Meanwhile, a top allied super PAC received several million-dollar contributions, including $1 million from the administration’s nominee for ambassador to the UK, on the day he was tapped to serve. The Democratic National Committee also spent heavily in the weeks following the party’s losses in 2024, dropping more than $56 million settling headquarters expenses, paying legal fees, and soliciting its voters' feedback and funds. The new filings with the Federal Election Commission on Friday, January 31, showed that Musk put about $11.2 million into his main super PAC, America PAC, on the final day of the year which brought his total political giving for the cycle to more than $290 million, a massive sum rivalled by only a handful of competing mega-donors. Musk’s end-of-the-year contributions were earmarked for “petition incentives,” related to the million-dollar giveaways that he organized through the super PAC in the home stretch of the race. Those giveaways aimed at encouraging voter registration. The move drew legal challenges, though they were ultimately allowed to continue. The latest filing from Musk’s super PAC shows that the giveaways cost him a total of more than $50 million, out of the more than $290 million that he spent on the 2024 election. Musk’s donations in 2024 were mostly aimed at supporting Trump; about a quarter of a billion dollars that he gave went to America PAC, the main super PAC that Musk formed for the election. Musk also gave millions to several other super PACs and outside groups that supported a range of GOP candidates, and he cut $10,000 checks to dozens of state Republican Party committees. The report also revealed how after the election, Trump converted his 2024 campaign account into a leadership PAC, a type of committee with which he can continue to raise and spend funds for political purposes. The committee, now called Never Surrender, reported nearly $21 million in total receipts during the final five weeks of the year.

FCT Police rescue lady from suspected r!tualist she met online who posed as a prospective lover

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully rescued a young woman from the clutches of a suspected armed robber and ritual!st, launching an immediate manhunt for the fleeing suspect. A statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, says On January 31, 2025, at approximately 11:30am, said the Command received a distress call from a hotel in the Wuse area of the FCT, reporting suspicious activity in one of their rooms. Responding swiftly, police operatives arrived at the scene and discovered a 25-year-old woman, Promise Eze, from Ebonyi State, tied to a small chair with her mouth covered in plaster. She was found unconscious and in distress. Officers acted immediately, freeing her from captivity and rushing her to Wuse District Hospital, where she was resuscitated. Preliminary investigations revealed a disturbing pattern of deception and violence. The victim had checked into the hotel a day earlier, on January 30, 2025, at about 7:00 AM, in the company of a man who identified himself as Emmanuel Okoro from Lagos State. However, during police questioning, the victim disclosed that she had met the suspect online, where he introduced himself under the alias Michael Prince, claiming to be an oil company employee based in Delta State. Initially, he invited her to Delta, but after she declined, they agreed to meet in Abuja. Adeh added that tragically, what was meant to be an innocent meeting turned into a harrowing ordeal. “The suspect allegedly brandished a dagger, using it to threaten and subdue the victim before restraining her by tying her hands and legs and taping her mouth shut inside the bathroom. He then fled the scene, stealing her two mobile phones. Alarmingly, before escaping, the victim overheard him speaking to suspected accomplices over the phone, informing them that he was on his way to regroup before returning to the hotel to finish the job.” Adeh said the FCT Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspect and is working tirelessly to ensure his immediate arrest. The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, psc, strongly condemns this act of violence and urges residents—especially young women—to exercise caution when meeting individuals they do not know personally. The CP reassures the public that the FCT Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. Canada, China and Mexico vow to respond after Trump imposed 25% import duties

Canada, Mexico, and China have vowed to retaliate against the sweeping new tariffs on their exports to the United States announced by President Donald Trump. The U.S. president declared that a 25% levy on Canadian and Mexican imports, alongside a 10% tax on Chinese goods, would take effect on Tuesday, February 4. Canadian energy imports would face a reduced tariff of 10%. President Trump justified the tariffs as a response to concerns about illegal immigration and drug trafficking, issues central to his political platform. "This was done through the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) because of the major threat of illegal aliens and deadly drugs killing our Citizens, including fentanyl," Trump posted on Truth Social. The White House echoed these sentiments, stating that the tariffs aim to hold the three countries accountable for their pledges to curb drug trafficking into the U.S. In retaliation, Canada, Mexico, and China announced their plans for countermeasures. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed that Canada would impose 25% tariffs on $155 billion worth of U.S. goods, including alcohol, fruits, vegetables, clothing, household appliances, and lumber. The initial $30 billion in tariffs would take effect Tuesday, February 4, with the remaining $125 billion following in 21 days. "We don't want to be here, we didn't ask for this, but we will not back down in standing up for Canadians," Trudeau said. He dismissed claims that Canada posed a security risk to the U.S. and highlighted measures Ottawa had promised, including $1.3 billion Canadian dollars for border security. In Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum rejected U.S. accusations of ties between her government and drug cartels as "slander." She urged the U.S. to focus on curbing the illegal flow of firearms southward and tackling domestic drug demand. Sheinbaum instructed her economy minister to implement retaliatory tariffs of 25% on U.S. goods. "Problems are not resolved by imposing tariffs, but by talking," she said. She rejected allegations of government alliances with criminal organizations and criticized the U.S. for failing to address domestic issues related to drug consumption and money laundering. China, meanwhile, condemned the U.S. tariffs as unjustified and pledged "necessary countermeasures to defend its legitimate rights and interests." The Chinese government announced plans to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization and criticized the tariffs as harmful to global trade. "Trade and tariff wars have no winners," a Chinese embassy spokesperson in Washington stated. Economists and industry groups have expressed alarm over the potential consequences of the tariffs and retaliatory measures. Experts warn of rising prices for a wide range of products, including cars, lumber, steel, food, and alcohol. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce and U.S. industry groups such as the National Homebuilders Association and Farmers for Free Trade have highlighted the potential for increased costs and economic disruption. The U.S. auto industry is particularly vulnerable, as auto parts frequently cross borders multiple times during production. TD Economics estimates the tariffs could raise the average price of a U.S. car by approximately $3,000. A report by the Peterson Institute for International Economics suggested that blanket 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods could slow growth and accelerate inflation in all three countries. Despite these concerns, Trump signaled his readiness to escalate tariffs further if the affected countries retaliate. Industry insiders believe Trump may back down if he can demonstrate progress on his stated concerns, particularly immigration and drug trafficking. However, with the tariffs set to take effect Tuesday, a new era of global trade wars appears imminent, threatening to strain relationships among the U.S. and its key trading partners.

According to Ayeni, the council has commenced certification processes for 400 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with a total of 855 SMEs expected to benefit from the program by 2025. “The scheme is designed to help SMEs obtain international certification, allowing them to access niche markets,” she said. Ayeni also revealed that the NEPC has begun integrating informal border trade into the formal sector, an initiative aimed at boosting foreign exchange earnings and improving Nigeria’s export data collection.

Kelechi Iheanacho will decide his next club - Sevilla boss

Sevilla manager Garcia Pimienta has confirmed that Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho is considering multiple offers as he decides his next move. Father Seeks Justice as Son Suffers Mental Breakdown After Alleged Abuse by Lagos Hotelier

Father seeks for justice as son 'runs mad' after a Lagos hotelier lured and s0d0mised him. A Nigerian man has come out to cry for justice after his 16-year-old secondary school student in Lagos ‘ran mad’ after confessing that he was sexually molested by a popular Lagos hotelier at Bucknor, Isheri Oshun area of the state. Vanguard reports that the distraught father, Edozie Christian, a spare parts dealer at Ladipo market in Lagos, said the incident started last Christmas when their son confided in his mother that he had a confession to make before the New Year. The mother obliged their son with confidentiality only to raise alarm after the boy told her that the owner of a popular hotel in the area lured him and four of his fellow students to his hotel and sodomised them and warned them that if they disclosed it to anybody, they would d!e. “My son started behaving like a mad person after the confession. We rushed him to a prayer house and after some days when he became a bit sober, we took him to Isheri Osun police station where he made a statement and narrated his ugly encounter with the hotelier. Shockingly, after he disclosed the names of his fellow students that took him to meet the Chief Executive Officer of the hotel, he relapsed and started behaving like a mad person. The police went to invite the students he mentioned but succeeded in getting only one of them who boldly came with a laptop and gave detailed accounts of how the hotelier sodomised them. He told detectives that they went to the hotel to partake in a TikTok programme only for the owner of the hotel, usually addressed as CEO, to lure them inside one of the rooms and promised to pay them N5,000 after sodomising them. The student said from all indications, he has been doing it to many other students who he usually pays and after using them, he will clean himself with a white handkerchief and threaten them never to discuss the encounter with anybody and if they do, they will d!e. After they made statements to the police at Isheri Osun station, the condition of my son worsened and I had to take him to Mirabel Centre at the General Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, where he was examined by doctors. The doctors later told us that there were signs of sodomisation but it did not affect his brain. They advised that we take him to a Psychiatric hospital for further examination, stating that he may be suffering from trauma from the abuse. When we got to the Psychiatric hospital, they also examined him and advised that we should take him to another hospital meant for teenagers which we did. After that, they gave us tablets and advised that we keep close checks on him, assuring that he would be okay after some time. However, we have been giving him the medications but he is getting worse daily. On the part of the police, initially, they told us that all the efforts they made to invite the owner of the hotel failed but he later sent his lawyer to talk with them. Another shock that befell us was that a few days later, the police invited me that the owner of the hotel had transferred the case to Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, without even reporting to their station. At this stage, they continued pressurizing me to report to their station, that they would take me to Zone 2 and all efforts I made to know the unit handling the case at the zone were rebuffed by the police. I then decided to personally report myself to the AIG at Zone 2, who swiftly directed his men to arrest the owner of the hotel for explanations. Unfortunately, a team of crack and armed policemen that stormed the hotel later could not arrest him but succeeded in arresting some of his staff.” According to police sources, the suspected owner of the hotel was arrested and interrogated by detectives. Meanwhile, the suspect is still in detention pending when detectives will conclude investigations. The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade confirmed the incident, stating that the investigation was still ongoing. Source: The GIST Central

According to Mail Online, He had thrown some of the stolen items into a nearby garden but still had with him a silver Rolex watch and some earrings when he was caught on the night of November 5. Allen, of High Street, Cheltenham, already had more than 120 offences and 44 convictions and admitted carrying out another raid on a nearby home that evening. He was jailed for two years and four months at Gloucester Crown Court. His latest victim was out of the country at the time of the break-in but was alerted when Allen set off a burglar alarm at the house in Leckhampton. The alert was sent to the owner who watched on his phone as Allen, carrying a torch ransacked his house. Police arrived and entered the home as Allen ran through the back door and began hauling himself up to the roof of the house next door. He was later caught and arrested. In custody, he had a gold chain and earrings which were later identified by the victim as having come from within their house. He was also found to have a silver Rolex which was later identified as belonging to the property burgled earlier that night. Investigating officer PC Sheer from the Cheltenham Vanguard Team said: 'Being burgled can have a devastating impact on victims leaving them feeling vulnerable in their own homes. 'It is hoped that Allen's arrest, charge, and sentencing shows how dedicated we are to taking burglars off the streets and helping to ensure the residents of Cheltenham's homes are safe.' The 59-year-old was sentenced to two years and four months in prison as well as ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228. In 2022, Allen was described as 'beyond hope' by a judge who jailed him for three years and nine months after he admitted two burglaries in Cheltenham. At the time, he had already been convicted 44 times for 121 offences, 21 of those being for burglary, GloucestershireLive reports.

It doesn’t matter if the wife has added weight or you had a dream about them being pregnant. No matter how excited and well-intentioned you are, please keep shut till they announce it. Mother arrested for neglect after her 2-year-old daughter d!ed when left home alone with her 4-year-old brother

An Indianapolis mother is facing neglect charges after the de@th of her 2-year-old daughter. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 33-year-old Chantell Gardner is charged with neglect, resulting in the de@th of 2-year-old Skylar Gardner. Chantell had left her two kids, aged 2 and 4, at home alone while she visited her boyfriend for several hours. According to reports, she usually returns from her boyfriend's house for brief periods to check on her kids. When she did her routine check in last week, she found her daughter de@d and called the police. A probable cause affidavit revealed on Jan. 25, officers responded to a call placed by the woman, who reported finding her daughter unresponsive underneath a dresser in their apartment. When officers arrived at the scene, the woman claimed she had been preparing dinner and had called for her children—her 4-year-old son and her 2-year-old daughter—to eat. While the son came, the girl did not respond. After searching the home, the woman told police she found her daughter cold to the touch and not breathing. In an attempt to save her daughter, she said she carried her daughter outside and called 911 while also contacting her boyfriend. Upon evaluating the apartment, officers conducted a protective sweep. They noted trash scattered throughout the living space, human feces on the walls and furniture, and a strong odor of rotting food permeating the air. Minutes later, emergency medical personnel arrived and pronounced the child dece@sed. The paramedics noted that she was cold, and rigor mortis had already set in. Upon examining her body, medical personnel observed bruising and injuries on her face, arms, legs, back, and vagina. In addition, IU Health Riley Children's Hospital's Child Protection team confirmed the child had a large puncture wound to her neck. During the investigation, the mother and her boyfriend were transported to the IMPD Child Abuse office. According to the affidavit, the boyfriend reportedly told police that the mother stays at his residence every night and the kids are not usually with her. He said they were at his residence once a week at most. When detectives spoke with the mother, she reportedly told police that she leaves both her children at home alone for multiple hours a day. She said she would check on them once a day to bring them food and drink. She also told police that she last bathed the kids a week or two weeks ago. She said when she checks on the children she sees feces on their hands and feet and that her daughter's vagina was red and swollen because of her pampers. The mother allegedly said that she knew she neglected her daughter but did not physically harm her. She also admitted to spending seven nights a week at her boyfriend's house while leaving the kids alone. The mother denied all allegations of s£xually assaulting or physically harming her children. The mother was jailed on a preliminary neglect of a dependent charge.

Napoli reject €65m Galatasaray's permanent deal for Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen

Italian club, Napoli has rejected Galatasaray’s €65 million bid for a permanent transfer of Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen. Osihmen joined the Turkish club on loan for a season last September after the last-minute attempt to join Chelsea in the Premier League failed. According to Italian sports news outlet, Corriere dello Sport, Napoli rejected the €65 million offer and wanted the release clause of €75 million. While the newspaper pointed out that Galatasaray wanted to keep Osimhen in the team, it was noted that Napoli did not want a discount and demanded the full release fee. It was further reported that Galatasaray could complete the transfer for 75 million euros for the Nigerian, who was on the radar of many teams in Europe in the interim transfer, while other clubs had to pay a compensation of six million euros in addition to the release fee. Osimhen’s release clause was initially set at €130m but was reduced last summer when he signed a new deal with Napoli before joining Galatasaray. The Nigeria international has been in top form for the Turkish leaders, netting 16 goals and providing five assists in 20 appearances since his loan move.

Legal expert, Afe Babalola SAN, has agreed to withdraw the cases he instituted against activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi

Legal expert, Afe Babalola SAN, has agreed to withdraw the cases he instituted against activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi. This comes after a delegation led by Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, paid him a visit on Sunday night, January 26. Ooni visited the elder statesman at his residence at Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti (ABUAD) to plead with him to withdraw the suit against Dele Farotimi. The Ooni who arrived at ABUAD at about 10.30 pm, was accompanied by other top Yoruba traditional rulers, including the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti, Oloye of Oye-Ekiti, Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti and Olojudo of Ido- Ekiti among others. Babalola had sued Farotimi in an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court following Farotimi’s publication of a book which allegedly defamed him. The Ooni had said Yoruba leaders and the traditional institution had been following the development keenly. The traditional ruler said that he and others resolved to intervene so that Babalola, ”can pardon his son, Farotimi.” He commended the legal icon for building his integrity over the years and urged him not to relent following the development. Responding to the plea, Babalola said he had received several letters as well as calls on the issue from eminent Nigerians asking him to withdraw the suit. “If you go through the pamphlet (Farotimi’s book), you will find that he attacked many judges by names, he attacked Supreme Court judges, and none is bothered, but I am bothered. I am bothered because of where and how I started life, from the farm to where I am. There is nothing I am going to gain from his imprisonment. There is nothing I am going to gain from so-called damages. I am not in quest of more wealth, rather how to spend what I have for the benefit of others. The only time I am happy is when I give. The request is simple, take away this criminal case in court. When Obasanjo wrote, he came here, I said no. when Kukah phoned and came, I said no, but on this occasion, I say yes. Thank you Kabiyesis. I will speak to my lawyers to withdraw it.”

The NDLEA spokesman, Mr Howells Oba, confirmed the incident. “Our men went for an operation behind the Ekeki Police Division. Our man made an entry at the police station,” he said. On the shooting, Oba said, “They shot two of our vehicles and we are trying to see how we can take them out.” According to him, the agency will make a formal statement on the situation but noted that they were trying to resolve the issue and restore peace. When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Musa Mohammed, said he was hurrying to the scene to find out what happened. "I am going there now to find out what happened,” the PPRO said.

Kim Kardashian has reportedly lost around 150,000 followers after she posted an inauguration day photo of First Lady Melania Trump on her Instagram story. Woman blamed by French court for divorce because she stopped having s3x with husband wins appeal at top European court

A woman who was blamed by French courts for her divorce because she no longer had sex with her husband, has won an appeal in Europe’s top human rights court, the court said on Thursday, January 23. The French woman - identified as Ms H.W, born in 1955 - brought her case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in 2021 after exhausting legal avenues in France almost a decade following the divorce. The woman, who married her husband in 1984 and had four children with him, wanted the divorce, but contested being blamed for the breakup, arguing it was an unjust intrusion into her private life and a violation of her physical integrity. She cited health problems and threats of violence from her husband as reasons she had not had sex with him from 2004 onwards. The fact that one of the couple’s children was mentally and physically handicapped put added stress on the marriage. H.W., who is from Le Chesnay near Paris, said she had been deeply traumatized by the ruling, which “legitimized a family environment where the privacy and dignity of women are ignored and flouted.” The new ECHR ruling stated that the French courts had violated the woman’s right to respect private and family life. “In the present case, the Court could not identify any reason capable of justifying this interference by the public authorities in the area of sexuality,” it said in a statement. The ECHR ruling comes amid the high-profile case of Gisele Pelicot, whose husband was found guilty of drugging his wife and inviting dozens of men over to their home to rape her. The case shocked the world, rekindled thorny debates about women’s rights in France and turned Gisele Pelicot into a feminist icon. In a statement released by her lawyer, Lilia Mhissen, H.W. celebrated her legal victory. “I hope this decision will mark a turning point in the fight for women’s rights in France,” she said. “It is now imperative that France, like other European countries, such as Portugal or Spain, take concrete measures to eradicate this rape culture and promote a true culture of consent and mutual respect.” Mhissen said the ECHR ruling has no impact on H.W.’s divorce, which is definitive. However, she said it will have a major impact on French law, preventing French judges from making similar divorce rulings in the future. “This decision marks the abolition of the marital duty and the archaic, canonical vision of the family,” she said in a statement. “Courts will finally stop interpreting French law through the lens of canon law and imposing on women the obligation to have sexual relations within marriage.” France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which represented the French government in the case, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Emmanuelle Piet, the head of one of the Feminist Collective Against Rape, said she was delighted with the new ruling. “Ms. W spent 15 years fighting this battle, and it ended in victory, bravo,” she said. “When you are forced to have sexual relations in marriage, it is rape.”

Telecoms tariff will be reviewed periodically — Edun

Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has said that tariffs in the telecommunications sector will be reviewed periodically. Recall that the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, had on Monday, January 20, granted approval to telcos to implement a 50 percent tariff hike sparking reactions from the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, who asked Nigerians to prepare for a possible nationwide boycott of telecommunication services while describing the decision as a “clear assault” on Nigerian workers’ welfare. Edun speaking on Thursday, January 23 at the ongoing 2025 World Economic Forum, WEF, in Davos, Switzerland urged telecommunication companies to enhance service delivery in line with the price increase. He said: “There has been inflation and rising costs and that has to be reflected for the telcos. There has been a high cost of living that has to be reflected. “I think the 50 percent tariff adjustment is a starting point. It’s about compromise, timing, and sequencing these necessary changes. “We want telcos operating efficiently, terminating calls seamlessly, and delivering high-quality services. At the same time, we want them to foster innovation, create jobs, and contribute to GDP. “The 50 percent tariff is a situation that will be looked at on a forward-looking basis. As we go forward there will continue to be review, consultations and discussions in this area.”

Men got taller and heavier at twice the rate of women over past century, New study shows

Human size has increased over the past century thanks to better health and nutrition, but this change has not occurred equally among men and women, a new study shows. Men have grown taller and heavier at more than twice the rate of women, according to the study published this week in the journal, Biology Letters. The researchers from Italy, the United States and the United Kingdom analyzed data provided in 2003 by the World Health Organization on the height and weight of more than 100,000 people across 69 countries. The study authors also used data from the Human Development Index (HDI), which measures national levels of human well-being. The team found that each 0.2 increase in the HDI saw an increase in height of approximately 1.68 centimeters (0.66 inches) for women and 4.03 centimeters (1.59 inches) for men, as well as an average weight gain of 2.70 kilograms (5.95 pounds) for women and 6.48 kilograms (14.29 pounds) for men. The trend was also confirmed by assessing data from the World Bank’s Gini Index, which measures national levels of income inequality, for 58 countries between 2000 and 2006. Higher inequality was associated with decreases in height and weight. Each unit increase in Gini was associated with an average reduction in height of approximately 0.14 centimeters in women and 0.31 centimeters in men, and an average weight decrease of approximately 0.13 kilograms for women and 0.39 kilograms for men, according to the study. While it could be thought that more developed countries could also simply have ethnic populations that are genetically taller, “we think that isn’t the case,” said study coauthor and environmental physiologist Lewis Halsey, a professor at the University of Roehampton who leads the Roehampton University Behaviour and Energetics Lab in London. This is because the researchers found a similar trend when looking at a compilation of adult height data from just one country: the UK. By analyzing the heights of 49,180 men and women between the ages of 23 and 26 from several UK studies published between 1905 and 1958, they found that women’s average height increased by 0.25 centimeters every five years, while that of men increased by 0.69 centimeters. “This is one of the first studies to make a connection between the evolution of humankind as driven by sexual selection in combination with the effects of environment on ultimately our phenotype, so how we ultimately present ourselves, how we ultimately look characteristically,” Halsey told CNN on Wednesday. Halsey believes the difference in the rate at which men and women are getting taller down to sexual selection. In the past, taller, heavier men would tend to be stronger, enabling them to outcompete other men, gaining more access to women and passing on their tall genes, he said. However, even today, “women tend to prefer taller men,” he said, while, “in contrast, women’s height isn’t so important. So, to put it simply, men don’t tend to say, ‘Oh, I only like tall women.’” “It is (a) nice cross-country study that basically confirms (an) already well known rule about the sex differences in ‘ecosensitivity,’” professor Bogusław Pawłowski, the head of the Department of Human Biology at the University of Wrocław in Poland, who was not involved in the study, told CNN Wednesday via email. “As (the) ecological or economical situation improves and there is better access to resources, males gain more biological benefits than females. It is exactly opposite when the resources are scarce (males ‘suffer’ more than females).” The “taller-male norm is something that occurs in Western countries (but also in many countries in Asia),” Pawłowski said. “It means that in these populations (a) man’s height is an important aspect of a man’s attractiveness on the human mate market.” The researchers found that the variation in height among individuals of the same sex was lower in countries with better living conditions. And, as seen in the UK, within the population of an individual country, men’s height differences were smaller than women’s as living conditions improved over time. This is because men, being bigger than women, “require more energy, they develop for longer” and, especially having more muscle, their tissues are “metabolically a bit more active,” Halsey said. This means that for me to grow, “it takes longer and it’s more expensive, but that makes the male body more vulnerable to perturbations, to problems, to influences by the environment,” such as disease, he added. So, when there is a stressful environment with more disease burden, men’s size is a lot more affected than women’s, he said. Because men’s size is more sensitive to living conditions than women’s, the study authors concluded that men’s height and the differences in height between the sexes “may be especially useful biomarkers for tracking population changes in health.”

US-Russia Trade war will have consequences – Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala warns Trump

The Director General of the World Trade Organization, WTO, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Thursday, January 23 warned against any reciprocated trade wars prompted by the United States, US, and President Donald Trump’s tariff threats on different countries. Urging other states to refrain from responding in kind to Trump, Okonjo-Iweala called such a potential situation ''catastrophic.'’ Her comment came after Trump threatened trade wars against Russia over the battle in Ukraine. Okonjo-Iweala speaking during the World Economic Forum annual meeting at the Swiss resort of Davos said: “If we have tit-for-tat retaliation, whether it’s 25% tariff (or) 60% and we go to where we were in the 1930s we’re going to see double-digit global GDP losses. That’s catastrophic. Everyone will pay.” Referencing the two World Wars when countries adopted trade restrictions in response to a US tariff act in 1930. “We’ve seen this movie, as I said, elsewhere in the 1930s with the Smoot-Hawley Act. It made it worse,” she said. “We’re very much saying to our members at the WTO, you have other avenues, even if a tariff is levied, please keep calm.”

US judge temporarily blocks President Trump's order seeking to end birthright citizenship for children of migrants

U.S. District Judge, John C. Coughenour issued a ruling on Thursday, January 23, temporarily blocking President Trump's executive order that aimed to end birthright citizenship for children born to migrants in the U.S. temporarily or without legal status. Coughenour issued the temporary restraining order after a hearing in Seattle. The judge signed the temporary restraining order in response to a lawsuit brought by Oregon, Arizona, Illinois, and Washington state, one of several suits opposing the administration's effort to curb the right of citizenship for anyone born on U.S. soil. In the courtroom in downtown Seattle, Coughenour interrupted the attorney for the Justice Department, Brett Schumate, to tell him how unconstitutional he thinks the administration's order is. "I've been on the bench for four decades, I can't remember another case where the question presented is as clear as this one is," Coughenour said, describing Trump's order as "blatantly unconstitutional." "There are other times in world history where we look back and people of goodwill can say, 'Where were the judges? Where were the lawyers?'" the judge said, according to KUOW News. The judge's order blocks federal agencies from implementing the executive order, signed by Trump on Monday, while the case is under review. Reacting to the order, Washington State Attorney General, Nick Brown, said: "This is step one. "But to hear the judge from the bench say that in his 40 years as a judge, he has never seen something so blatantly unconstitutional sets the tone for the seriousness of this effort." Brown is among 22 Democratic state AGs who have joined lawsuits to block the executive order. The 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution grants full citizenship to all persons "born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof." In his executive order on Monday, Donald Trump said the "privilege of United States citizenship is a priceless and profound gift." This case is expected to be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.

UK teenager jailed for minimum of 52 years for the murder of three girls

A British teenager who murdered three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event was jailed for at least 52 years on Thursday, January 23, for an atrocity prosecutors said was so violent it appeared he had tried to decapitate one of the victims. On Monday, Axel Rudakubana, 18, admitted carrying out the killings last July in the northern English town of Southport. The judge said Rudakubana will likely spend the rest of his life in jail for the murders of Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9, who were among 26 children attending the summer vacation event. He also pleaded guilty to 10 charges of attempted murder, as well as to producing the deadly poison ricin and possessing an al Qaeda training manual. Two of his victims suffered “horrific injuries which … are difficult to explain as anything other than sadistic in nature,” Case prosecutor Deanna Heer told Liverpool Crown Court. Judge Julian Goose described Rudakubana’s actions as “evil,” saying: “I am sure that Rudakubana had a settled and determined intention to carry out these offences and that, had he been able to, he would have killed each and every child, all 26 of them, as well as any adults who got in his way.” The judge sentenced Rudakubana in his absence after he refused to return to court, having twice been removed for interrupting the hearing. Goose said he was not allowed by law to impose a life sentence without the possibility of parole as Rudakubana was 17 at the time of his crimes, but added: “It is likely that he will never be released and that he will be in custody for all his life.”

The Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, on Thursday, January 23, said the country’s Gross Domestic Product is expected to grow by 4.17 percent while inflation is expected to ease in 2025. While Nigeria’s inflation currently stands at 34.80 percent, Cardoso is optimistic that it will decline as President Bola Tinubu’s reforms start to yield results. He also said foreign exchange reserves rose gradually, driven by increased oil production. Oil output is forecast to reach 2.3 million barrels per day by mid-year, Cardoso said. Cardoso pledged to take Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves to more than $40 billion after recording a $6 billion FX inflow in 2024. According to Cardoso, the central bank’s priority remained to maintain price stability and bolster market confidence. To this end, the bank aims to enhance transparency and efficiency within the foreign exchange market. “With limited opportunities for FX arbitrage, we expect that there will be more appetite for real sector development,” he stated.

Baseball legend, Mariano Rivera and wife accused of covering up s£x abuse of an underage girl

American baseball legend, Mariano Rivera and his wife Clara have been accused of covering up the s£xu@l abuse of an underage girl that occurred both at their home and a church. According to a new lawsuit, the unidentified girl was abused by an older girl in 2018 at a Florida camp affiliated with the church founded by the Riveras in New Rochelle, New York. The abuse also allegedly happened at the Riveras home, then by a church leader in 2021 and 2022. Rivera and his wife aren't named in the lawsuit as defendants, but it does accuse them of knowing about the alleged abuse at the camp. The suit also claims that the Riveras intimidated the girl into staying silent. The suit says that the victim's mother informed Clara of the abuse and that Clara promised to investigate the matter. But they allegedly covered it up. "Rather than take sufficient action to end the sexual abuse of Jane Doe, the Riveras each separately isolated and intimidated Jane Doe to remain silent about her abuse by MG to avoid causing trouble for Refuge of Hope and the Ignite Life Summer Internship," the suit reads. The suit also alleges that MG abused the victim at the Rivera residence that summer during a barbecue. "At all times relevant, [the Riveras] knew or should have known that MG was a risk to sexually abuse children… before and during the time of the barbecue," the suit reads. "In order to avoid the potential scandal of child s£xual abuse in its programs and otherwise protect [themselves] above all else, the Riveras… assured [Doe's mother] that [Doe] was safe and in no danger at Ignite Life Center, despite actual or constructive knowledge that Doe remained vulnerable to additional acts of sexual abuse by MG." Rivera, widely known as the greatest closer in the history of baseball, is the sport's all-time saves leader with 652. His 2.21 ERA is also the lowest by any pitcher with at least 500 innings since the live-ball era began in 1920. In January 2019, Rivera became the first, and still only, player to be unanimously elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Later that year, President Donald Trump, during his first presidency, awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Court sentences Abuja bishop to 20 years imprisonment for r3ping church member's 12-year-old daughter

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has sentenced a prominent Abuja-based clergyman, Bishop Kenneth Duke, to 20 years imprisonment without an option of fine for r3ping a 12-year-old girl. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) disclosed this in a statement titled ‘An FCT High Court sentenced a 52-year-old bishop to 20 years imprisonment for r3pe’, issued by its National Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. NAPTIP had sued the 52-year-old, who hails from Cross River State, for raping the minor (name withheld). Adekoye said the victim is the daughter of the bishop’s church member “who was entrusted under the care of his family. In case no: CR/702/2023 Federal Republic of Nigeria Vs Bishop Kenneth Duke, the Defendant was arraigned before Court 16 on 02/11/2023 on two counts for the offence of r3pe and intentionally caused emotional and psychological abuse on the victim. The offence stated that the convict, who lives behind Dantata Construction Company, Dakwa, Abuja, on March 6, 2023, had carnal knowledge of the victim without consent, committing an offence punishable under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015. NAPTIP said its investigation revealed that the victim, an indigene of Ondo State, was living in Lagos before she was brought to Abuja to live with her mother The report indicated that on March 5, 2023, “her mother took her to the church located at Dantata Zuba Expressway, and after the service, she was taken to the family house of the bishop, who is also the pastor of the church, so that she could stay with them to enable the bishop’s wife to take her to where she would learn a skill which both families had earlier discussed. "It was gathered that the following day, March 6, 2023, the convict, father of five children, sent his children on an errand, and being alone with the victim at home at about 10:00 a.m., gave her some mathematics work to solve and as she was trying to do it, the bishop pounced on her, covered her mouth and violently r3ped her on a chair despite her crying and pleading,” NAPTIP said. In the judgment by Justice Adebiyi Osolo, the clergy was found guilty of one count of rape and was sentenced accordingly without an option of a fine. The development came on the heels of the rescue of nine pregnant girls by NAPTIP operatives at a suspected baby factory located inside one of the sprawling estates in the Ushafa area of Abuja. The victims were confined to a rented apartment inside the estate by a yet-to-be-identified suspected trafficking agent after recruiting them through an online platform. NAPTIP’s raid on the facility followed a tip-off by a concerned citizen who noticed the unusual situation and movement around the area. Speaking on the conviction, the agency’s Director General, Binta Bello, expressed gratitude to the judiciary for the landmark judgment, saying that it would serve as a deterrent to others. “I want to thank the judiciary for this judgment. It will certainly serve as a deterrent to other people. As I warned a few weeks ago, NAPTIP will not spare anyone found to have violated any of the laws irrespective of status, either on human trafficking or violence against persons," the DG stated. "Rape is a serious crime with everlasting psychological effect and lasting trauma on the victim. We must all rise to say no to this heinous crime and ensure the protection of our children. “How can you imagine a 52-year-old man violating a 12-year-old girl? It is painful, and it is criminal. I am relieved that the judiciary has served the convict the commensurable punishment for his action. This is a warning to others.”

May he rest in peace.” The influencer had reportedly hired a tattoo studio to give him a full back tattoo, which they opted to do by putting him under general anaesthesia in a hospital in the Santa Catarina state of Brazil. Hours before his de@th, Godoi informed his followers of the procedure and promised to check back in with them once it was over. However, he ended up going into cardiac arrest and d!ed at 12 p.m. on Monday, according to the Instagram post. According to a statement shared with The Daily Mail by the tattoo studio owner, Godoi d!ed “at the beginning of the sedation and intubation.” “That occurred before they even started tattooing him,” the owner said, adding that Godoi was a “great friend.” “He was quickly checked and a cardiologist was called in to try to revive him, unfortunately without success.” Police are reportedly investigating Godoi’s de@th. The influencer was known for his content about luxury cars, which sometimes involved his wife, Rafaela Gastaldi. He was also the CEO of his own business, Godoi Premium Group. Godoi’s de@th comes as more people opt to receive general anaesthetic before getting tattoos. “Anesthesia is really a lot more complicated than just flipping a switch like turning off a light,” Dr. John Baer an anesthesiologist and chair of anesthesia at Swedish Medical Center in Colorado said in a recent interview with Scripps News. “But those who have the money, the fame, they will find the places they can get this safely done, but still there’s always that inherent risk. “Back in the 1940s it was about 1 in 1,000 people would d!e from anaesthesia,” he explained. "Now that number is closer to 1 in 100,000.”

President Trump cancels all federal diversity programs and puts all staff on paid leave

The Trump administration has ordered all federal employees in diversity, equity, and inclusion roles to be placed on paid leave, according to a new memo from the Office of Personnel Management. The memo, issued Tuesday to heads of departments and agencies, sets a deadline of no later than 5 p.m. ET Wednesday to inform the employees that they will be put on paid administrative leave as the agencies prepare to close all DEI-related offices and programs and to remove all websites and social media accounts for such offices. It also asks federal agencies to submit a written plan by Jan. 31 for dismissing the employees. President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday ending “radical and wasteful” diversity, equity and inclusion programs in federal agencies, with DEI offices and programs being ordered to shut down. “President Trump campaigned on ending the scourge of DEI from our federal government and returning America to a merit based society where people are hired based on their skills, not for the color of their skin,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement Tuesday night. “This is another win for Americans of all races, religions, and creeds. Promises made, promises kept.” Trump signed 46 executive orders and presidential actions Monday that addressed a number of campaign pledges, including ending Biden-era border policies and pardoning the Jan. 6 Capitol rioters. Tuesday, he signed an executive order that targeted diverse hiring practices at the Federal Aviation Administration, arguing that such initiatives penalized “hard-working Americans who want to serve in the FAA but are unable to do so, as they lack a requisite disability or skin color.”

Over 5,000 Nigerian women are stranded in Iraq – NiDCOM

Over 5,000 Nigerian women are currently stranded in Iraq after being sent as caregivers, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has revealed. The commission's chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed this during a seminar on “Sensitisation and Advocacy Program for Promoting Diaspora Investment Potentials in South-West Nigeria,” held in Lagos. The event was organised by NiDCOM in collaboration with G-Consulting International Services Limited. Dabiri-Erewa recounted a recent case where a Nigerian woman, sent by her husband to work as a caregiver in Iraq, died under mysterious circumstances. “As I speak with you today, there are about 5,000 women stranded in Iraq. I just dealt with a case last week. A husband sent his wife to Iraq to go and be a caregiver. She’s dead,” she said. The commission is now working to repatriate the woman's body. “How do you bring the body back? That’s what is worrying the husband. He doesn’t know where to start. So we had to intervene. The mission had been able to intervene, they would do an autopsy to see how she died because she just died mysteriously being a caregiver,” Dabiri-Erewa added. She emphasized the importance of exploring local opportunities instead of risking dangerous migrations. “There’s no point in seeking a better life and then you die in the process. This is our own little way of saying there are opportunities in Nigeria,” she noted, adding that similar workshops will be conducted across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones to promote investment potential. Dabiri-Erewa also highlighted the growing trend of African Americans and others in the diaspora tracing their roots to Nigeria. “We received about 14 people yesterday. They traced their roots and did their DNA. They realized that they are Nigerians... They are beginning to find out where they come from, some are Fulani, Igbo, Yoruba, and they want to come back home and invest in Nigeria,” she said. Group Managing Director of G-Consulting, Dr. Godfrey Ajayi Sunday, stated that the workshop aims to mobilize over $100 million in funding to support participants interested in partnering with the diaspora for business opportunities. He identified sectors such as real estate and agriculture as key areas for investment. Other facilitators urged participants to avoid irregular migration and explore Nigeria’s untapped potential. “While some people want to japa, many African Americans want to come back,” Dabiri-Erewa concluded, emphasizing the need to encourage diaspora investment in the country.

Bayelsa governor, Duoye Diri recounts how someone almost made him go through rituals before becoming Governor

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has narrated how he paid $10,000 to marabouts from Senegal who were contracted on his behalf to spiritually facilitate his emergence as governor. However, he clarified that he ultimately rejected the ritual. Speaking during the KOLGA (Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area) Annual Day of Thanksgiving in Sampou, his community, Diri shared that his unwavering faith in God earned him the title of ‘Miracle Governor.’ He recounted an incident in 2020 when a senior citizen invited him to Abuja and advised him to perform certain rituals if he wanted to become governor. Diri said he declined the offer, stating that his faith in God would not allow him to resort to such measures. Diri, a candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 off-cycle governorship election, had initially lost to the then candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief David Lyon. However, Diri challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaration of Lyon as the winner, and ultimately won at the Supreme Court. Governor Diri’s spokesman, Daniel Alabrah, quoted him as saying that the senior citizen, who had flown in marabouts from Senegal to perform the rituals, became upset when Diri rejected the offer and demanded a refund for the expenses incurred in transporting the marabouts. Diri agreed to pay him $10,000 for the expenses. He said: “I thank God and also thank Apostle David Zilly Aggrey because he started this event. And because his prayers were heard, God made it possible to bring me in and today, it is by law that all Kolokuma/Opokuma people can gather to praise God. “Let me reveal to you why it is important to thank God and have faith in Him. Sometime ago, a senior citizen of this country invited me to Abuja and asked me to perform certain sacrifices but I declined. I told him my faith in God will not allow me to do it. He got angry and told me I would never become governor. “He told me that he had spent $10,000 to bring the people for the sacrifice and asked for a refund, which I obliged. When the Supreme Court’s pronouncement came, the man was shocked and could not call me. Sadly, he passed on after some time. “The story I have narrated was witnessed by my deputy and a friend in Abuja as both of them accompanied me to visit the senior citizen. Kolokuma/Opokuma people have every reason to thank God. As a state, we do not want anybody to be harmed in the name of politics because we do not know who God has destined for greatness. So I call on all of us in the political game to be very civil and recognise that there is God who rules in the affairs of man." The governor emphasized that his steadfast belief in God made him decline the offer and that God proved His faithfulness in the end. He urged politicians to trust in God rather than rely on other means for success. Diri also expressed gratitude to the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma for their continued development and thanked the local council for passing legislation that officially recognizes the Thanksgiving Day. He acknowledged Apostle David Zilly Aggrey, the convener of the event, for his role in initiating the program and ensuring its continuity.

Fixing Nigerian roads is frustrating. Nigeria needs N18trn to fix roads - Umahi

David Umahi, Nigeria's Minister of Works, expressed frustration over the country’s road repair challenges, citing insufficient funding as a major obstacle. Appearing before the Senate Committee on Works, Umahi acknowledged the difficulties in addressing the country’s vast infrastructure needs, emphasizing that the available budget does not adequately address the scope of repairs needed. Umahi noted that the cost of repairing roads has significantly increased compared to previous years. He admitted that while he has succeeded in many of his professional endeavors, the task of improving road infrastructure in Nigeria has proven to be especially challenging due to financial constraints. "I have not failed in many of my life engagements but I am feeling frustrated with fixing roads in Nigeria with funds that are not in any way tangible for what is required," he said. The Minister also referenced the substantial backlog of projects inherited by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, with a total of 2,064 road projects amounting to N13 trillion. Umahi suggested that these projects, when adjusted for current market conditions, should now be valued at approximately N18 trillion. He emphasized that the president, an economist by training, is actively working to secure loans to finance these essential infrastructure projects. Highlighting the critical importance of road infrastructure, Umahi explained that well-maintained roads are crucial for economic growth and reducing poverty. He said; “Remember the President inherited 2,064 projects, totaling N13 trillion in 2023. If you review that project in line with the market realities now, it should be close to N18 trillion. “So, when the President, who is an economist, who has gone through all the segments of what we are passing through, by reason of his experiences, and is making efforts to borrow money to do these projects, the public will be challenging his actions. “That’s what I have been telling the National Assembly, and we are on the same page now. We have to borrow money to fix the roads. “The roads, when fixed, would be catalyst to economic growth. It will also eliminate hunger. This is because road infrastructure create a lot of economic activities." However, Umahi also pointed out that fixing the roads cannot be accomplished with the yearly budget allocations alone. He called for more sustained and focused investment in infrastructure, recognizing the vital role it plays in the nation’s development. Some members of the Senate Committee on Works agreed with Umahi, noting that the N827 billion allocated to the Ministry of Works for the 2025 fiscal year is insufficient to meet the country’s road repair needs. They echoed the minister’s concerns that more substantial funding is needed to address Nigeria’s growing infrastructure deficit.
