“I didn’t want to burden you. I wasn’t even sure if I’d accept it,” Ugo admitted.

His hesitation hurt her even more. “You think I can’t handle the truth? Or did you think I wouldn’t want you to go?”

Their once-perfect connection seemed to crack. Chioma distanced herself, unsure if she could trust him again.

Chapter 4: Realizing the Truth

As days turned into weeks, Chioma couldn’t stop thinking about Ugo. She missed their conversations, his encouragement, and the way he believed in her. But more importantly, she realized that her anger wasn’t because he’d kept a secret; it was because she was scared of losing him.

Ugo, too, couldn’t stay away. He showed up at her doorstep one evening, drenched from the rain.

“I messed up,” he said. “I didn’t want to hurt you, Chioma. But the truth is, I can’t imagine my life without you.”

Her heart softened. “I was scared, too,” she confessed. �
